Maier Wild... Sustainability

1. What is sustainability?

“For humans sustainability is the potential for long-term maintenance of well-being, which has economic, environmental and social dimensions .These “three pillars“ of sustainability are interacting with each other and need a balanced and lasting coordination.”

Economic sustainability: for a company to become economically sustainable on a permanent basis

Environmental sustainability: to safe and preserve the environment for future generations

Social sustainability: promotes  the capabilities of present people without compromising capabilities of future generations, it encompasses human rights, right to education, labour rights, etc.

In short, sustainability is the combination of economic efficiency, environmental responsibility and social justice.

2. What are we doing to achieve sustainability?

The growing world population and the resulting environmental pollution, climatic changes, dwindling resources and the increase in harmful emission – all these factors are important reasons to act. As a company we are part of the society and we must take responsibility. We have to act in sustainable and responsible ways to protect our environment and enable future generations to live their lives without restriction. Sustainability is an ongoing process and not an individual measure. Credibility and transparency are essential features of our strategy.

2.1. Measures to achieve sustainability in the sector of climate, environment and energy

  • Saving electricity and energy, e.g. using energy-efficient machinery
  • Using renewable energy sources
  • Conservation of water
  • Economical use of material
  • Trucks with Euro 5 emission standard  (lowest emission class at the moment)
  • Large storage capacity to reduce truck freights to external storage facilities à emission reduction
  • Optimal route planning, using the trucks‘ capacities as best we can (on the way back to our premises unskinned game from our suppliers is being collected) à emission reduction
  • Environment-friendly and energy-saving value chains from production to delivery
  • Reduction of waste
  • Waste separation
  • Selecting raw material suppliers that also aim at achieving a sustainable economic development
  • Processing of  renewable resources
  • Continuous improvement  of our production
  • Investing in construction projects to guarantee good insulation
  • Energy-conscious behaviour in the administrative areas, e.g. well-lit construction of the building, switching off the room fountain in the evening, shutting down the PC, etc.

2.2. Sustainability in the sector of society and employees

  • Assuming social responsibility
  • Securing labour- and human rights
  • Training of our junior staff  in different sectors with a positive approach to sustainability
  • Treating employees and partners in a trustworthy and fair way
  • Focusing on occupational safety and health of our employees
  • Open exchange unhindered by hierarchical structures and across departments
  • Social integration
  • Development of our personnel
  • Well equipped and ergonomically designed work places, e.g. 23 inch screens
  • Supporting social projects, e.g. die Tafel - the foodbank a non-profit, charitable organization that distributes mostly donated food to a wide variety of agencies that in turn feed the hungry

2.3. Other areas that support sustainability

  • Integration of sustainability into all our company processes
  • High quality products  produced in a sustainable way
  • Investing in quality assurance
  • Recruiting local suppliers and service providers
  • Convincing our contract partners to work according to the same environmental guidelines as we do

3. What do we want to achieve? What are our objectives?

We wish to emphasise that sustainability is important to us and therefore we will have to act.  It is our declared aim to continually improve all our company processes to improve sustainability. We also want to educate our employees about this subject / we want to make our employees more aware about this subject.
